Isaiah 57

God does not expect perfection, but He does expect a heart of repentance and humility. Repentance demonstrates sorrow over sin and a deep desire to not repeat the sin. Humility is when we admit that we need God’s power to overcome sin and that we acknowledge that we do not have the strength within us to overcome sin but must rely on God’s strength. The wicked (or lawless) make up their own rules for living and rationalize their sin and pridefully declare they need no one’s help. And you or God certainly cannot tell them how they should live or that they should give up the sin that they so desperately love.
